Interested in manufacturing but not exactly sure what jobs look like? This guide will cover some of the most common positions in manufacturing. Most of the jobs listed below don’t require a college degree or extra certification, and can be learned on-the-job.

Examples of Manufacturing Jobs

  1. Machining - Uses tools to create parts from a design. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  2. Production Fabrication - Cutting and creating parts. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  3. Machine Operation - Operating standard manufacturing machines. Does not require a degree. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  4. Pipe-Fitting - Installs, assembles and fabricates pipes. Degree from a trade school usually required. 
  5. Maintenance (Facility & Industrial-Mechanical) - Services and maintenance of machines and some equipment. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  6. Electrical Maintenance - Ensures electrical equipment is in working order.  Degree from a trade school usually required. 
  7. Industrial Painting - Cleaning and painting of industrial buildings and equipment. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  8. Assembly - Assembles parts, typically on a manufacturing line. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  9. Packaging - Places and seals finished products into containers for shipping. On-the-job training is usually provided.
  10. Material Handling - Transports items throughout a warehouse or into a transport vehicle. On-the-job training is usually provided.
